The idea

Built around the music, not the wifi.

Inspired by the Japanese jazz kissa, the small cafés where people come to sit close and hear records the way they were meant to sound. A vacuum tube amp warms every track while the espresso pulls.

Inside the room

Warm wood, vintage glow, records turning.

The interior of Rooms Coffee, wood-panelled walls, vintage horn speakers and shelves of vinyl records
A vintage vacuum-tube amplifier and a turntable with a record spinning

A cozy corner of the café on a rainy day, a matcha by a fogged window

How the room came to be

A record buyer, a DJ, and one good idea.

Eddie Yang spent years buying records across Asia and spinning as a DJ before he turned this Barrington storefront into a listening room. The shelves hold vinyl you can take home, and the matcha gets whisked by hand at the bar.

Jazz, soul, and hip hop fill the room while the espresso pulls. People stay, settle in, and connect over what is playing.
